Street parking is normally not too bad. No meters on South Van Ness. Closest parking garage around 16th & Mission.
You can pay with a card. It is quite small, I would make a reservation. I do not know the voucher, was only a guest myself.
Sorry no lunch at Walzwerk. Opening hours Tue - Sun 5:30 - 10pm
We met with friends at this place for dinner. my friend recommended this place. Well, it was very nice. The staff members were very polite and we felt excellent. The food was just great. We enjoyed every moment and we will definitely return to this restaurant. we highly recommend this place.
A great spot to get some proper German food. Service here is amazing, and every single dish we tried here on different occasions didn’t disappoint. My favorite: herring appetizer.
Good schnitzels and German beer. A bit loud. Not too expensive.
Amazing food and atmosphere, and finally German food that is actually German food and goes beyond Bavaria. Definitely recommend, and will be back!
Great food, atmosphere, and service. Really enjoyed trying the Rindsrouladen.
Best breakfast as far as i’m concerned. Wait staff is extremely nice and attentive.
I love German food so I was happy to spot this place on the map. We had the Hering, Soljanka and the Rinderroulade, all very tasty, but the cherry on top was the Apfelstrudel! So so so lecker! 😋
I've spent a lot of time in Germany for both work and pleasure. Walzwerk is truly an authentic German food experience. Great service. Always crowded.
Excellent jeager schnitzel. Love the spaetzle and mushroom gravy it comes with. For chocolate lovers, the Kalter Hund (cold dog) dessert is unique and tasty.
I was honestly blown away by the service at Walzwerk. In a city that is not at all known for its food service, the staff at Walzwerk matched the coziness of the atmosphere and food. If you like the feeling of a home cooked meal, this is the place to eat. They even had a special menu for the holidays and give you a little treat at the end of the meal. This will definitely become a staple in our holiday traditions.
The food is simple but delicious. The service is friendly. The beer selection is amazing. I bring friends here as often as possible. Try the bratwurst or the sauerbraten if it’s your first time. For vegetarians the käsespätzle is a must. If you’re still hungry try their made-to-order apflestrudel.
Awesome beers, not vast in number, but quality selections. There were 2 servers, the taller guy was excellent, friendly, helpful and engaging, the other guy with white hair, not really, but maybe he was having a bad day. The food was awesome, we had the potato pancakes, cream herrings, and pretzel bun to start. Then the pork schnitzel and sauerbraten. Wow, the food is so good. Portions were huge. I was full after the herrings but I had to try the other dishes. All so yummy. The berry desert was very good as well, but by then I was stuffed.
By far the most authentic German restaurant in the bay area. They have Matjes!
The food is constantly well prepared and yummy, cashiers provides awesome service. I loved the cleanliness and vibes. Will come back again.
I prefer this restaurant very much. theres a very special air. The meals are tasty. the service is effective and the stuff is well trained. The cost is reasonable. profoundly recommend.
This spot is worth visiting. They serve large portions for convenient rates. Consistently well kept and with great vibes. Would recommend to others.
The restaurant feels very cozy and welcoming. The staff and food is no frills and reminds me of a restaurant I ate at while in Munich last year. There is limited seating though, so pick the right night, make a reservation, or be prepared to wait.
I've been going to Walzwerk for years and never been disappointed. Its a great place to catch up with friends: the setting is intimate but casual and you never feel rushed through the meal. The food and beer selection is always good: its a little taste of Germany, whether I'm bringing those freshly back from a family visit to Berlin or a friend who has never been. This time was the first time we ordered vegetarian food and honestly I think I will go with the vegetarian entrees next time: the classics are always solid but the vegetarian food was beautiful.
I actually love their food and service, fantastic area right next to my residence. The cashiers are always very welcoming. Highly recommended.
Absolutely delicious food AND beer AND glühwein!! I got the hühnerbrust and a schwarzbier. Lots of really cool paraphernalia from East Germany. The owner is an absolute delight, we loved chatting with her throughout the evening and I can’t wait to get back next time I’m in San Francisco.
Love this restaurant! Been there twice in 2 months because it’s that good. The head waiter is so friendly and nice, service is impeccable and the food is just delicious. What I especially enjoy is the decor... simple yet cleverly curated. The chicken schnitzel and the sausage are amazing, and so is the pretzel!
Amazing!!! Every single dish and drink we had was delish ðŸ˜....I almost forgot... our waiter (lady with glasses, sorry don't know her name) was the hardest working woman I have seen in a long time!! You are lucky to have her!!!
Wonderful German cuisine in an authentic East German restaurant. We have eaten here many times over the years and we've always enjoyed it. Try the Curry Wurst as an appetizer - it is excellent (dat wurst is der best).
Really good and traditional german food 🤤
Good authentic German fare. Service was sweet but not quite as available as you would like. I thought everything was delicious, thou some complained that the schnitzel was a little on the sweet side. Nice atmosphere. Good for date or family outing.
This is definitely authentic eastern German food. Try the Soljanka, the cold cut platter, Roulade and Kalter Hund for desert.
I loved the dinner, the dessert, and the staff! Will go again (although I hope they can get a second server... lady seemed like she was running the whole operation by herself).
I tried this spot once with a friend and I am addicted ever since. I like the fantastic character and delightful food and drinks. I recommend this place.
Having been raised on German food, I often find German restaurants somewhat lacking. Walzwerk, however, was exceptional!! Our group ordered the Rolladen served with red cabbage and spaetzle, Sauerbraten and Jaegerschnitzel with a generous helping of mushrooms. The flavours of each were delicious, and were complimented by the 3 varieties of German beer ordered. We will most certainly eat here again during our next visit to San Francisco.
We happened on the place while visiting and really enjoyed it. The service was excellent, the atmosphere endearing, and the delicious food authentic. Will definitely be on our list on our next trip.
Where do I begin?! Incredible dining experience with authentic German fare from start to end. The restaurant hosted a group of 8 friends and I, on late notice, and gave us the entire back room to ourselves. The pitchers of delicious german beer were flowing, perfect schnitzel was eaten, and singalongs were had. One of the owners kept checking in on our table, recommending dishes, and even brought us Underberg to polish off the meal. So happy to have such a wonderful, close knit, delicious restaurant in the Mission neighborhood. Food was top notch and service even better. Thank you!
Great DDR food and excellent service!
I certainly loved their food and customer service, fantastic location right next to my apartment. The staff members are always very welcoming. Highly recommended.
Whoa! What a find! Great beer and even better food ... everything tastes homemade! Cozy and eclectic space reflecting Ostalgie.
Food and staff are great. The beer is outstanding.
Fantastic experience - loved the food, drink, and service
Authentic German food. I used to live in Berlin. When I miss German atmosphere, I go to this restaurant. Great food and people working there is friendly. It's lively in a good way. I love this place.
The best German food ever
A great little gem in SF with the East German experience. The food is so good here, we always have a great meal. Good vegetarian choices also. I tried the veggie schnitzel tonight and it was delicious.
I prefer this venue very much. It has a special air. The food is tasty. the service is powerful and the team is trained. The cost is modest. I highly recommend.
I get to eat here a lot since I work right next to it. I must say the service is always excellent and they keep the place well kept regularly. Rates are reasonable and they serve generous portions.
Walzwerk is a great restaurant! The service is friendly and quick, and even tries his best to speak some German! Very authentic! The food is superb, very German of course ;) The design of the interior is as basic as East Germany gets and festures some cool artefacts from Germany. We had a great time there and will definitely come again when we're back in SF. A must for anybody from D/A/CH who misses home!
I often take my friends to this place with my highest recommendations. I visit this restaurant often. I get very good feedback from my friends. The meals are yummy and the stuff is attentive and cooperative. Whenever we visit this place we pass a delightful time. I recommend this place with pleasure.
Delicious and fresh food!
My family and I went here during our San Frank vacation, we’re Germans and missed our typical German food. The place is really authentic and it tasted like home. The service is really good and anyone who wants has the opportunity to speak German with the waitress!
Excellent food, and absolutely WONDERFUL beers. The atmosphere and service are also top-notch.
The place offers a large range of delicious food. I like dining here. The employees are always friendly, pricing is reasonable and the spot is always well organised.
The food here is wonderful! We really love the authentic German feel of the entire place. We are regulars at Suppenküche, but Walzwerk has a lot of different dishes you don't find at SK and is more vegetarian friendly, although they have much less beer variety. We've been twice now during the week. Both times the tables were mostly filled but seemingly only one, very busy server working!
Delicious east German food!!! This place was recommended by a friend of mine who is German. Her father was a chef in Germany and she said it reminded her of her father's cooking. This place is no frills, no pretentious, home feel. Staff are very friendly and attentive! Food came out quick!!
Super authentic German food. The best in San Francisco in my opinion. Everything is great except the Sauerbraten. Love the original Eastern German decor. Super friendly staff.
